"The history of birds in Hawaii is one of tremendous radiation due to geographic isolation resulting in numerous species of birds found nowhere else on earth. Unfortunately, Hawaiian flora and fauna have suffered massive extinctions since humans and introduced mammals arrived."—MFBRP website
Hello followers! Here I am announcing my second ever giveaway, in honor of the wonderful Hawaiian honeycreepers I am currently working with. I really think that the plight of Hawaiian birds is all-to-often overlooked by the mainland, and I want to raise some awareness both for the birds and Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project, which does an amazing job trying to prevent future extinctions on the island of Maui. The most recent extinction on Maui occured in 2004, when the last Poouli died in captivity, YES, an American bird species has gone extinct in the last ten years, and very few people are even aware.
The organization also have a Facebook Page, which you could like to follow updates on their work with the birds, important finds, job postings, and fundraising opportunities. They are a small organization and really appreciate every LIKE they get.
Soooo, back to the giveaway—I have 3 sets of 6 stickers each—nice, high quality round stickers about three inches in diameter. Each sticker has an image of a honeycreeper found on Maui (Maui Parrotbill, Akohekohe, Iiwi, Apapane, Hawaii Amakihi, and Maui Alauahio). !!!!
So here are the basic giveaway rules—
1. Both likes and reblogs count.
2. Must be following me.
3. Must be willing to give me an address where I can send stuff. I”ll ship wherever, so you don’t have to be in the US.
It’ll end at the end of February!
Thanks for following me! I’ll try to be posting more birds, but I’m quite busy and our field housing has no internet. I’ve got another 5 months on Maui :)
